HARDINGTON GARDEN CLUB

On 26 March we welcomed eight new members and three guests to our meeting. We were entertained by Neil Lovesey from the Picket Lane Nursery at South Perrott, whose workshop on the techniques of propagation was a trifle delayed by the refusal of his PC to show the detailed photographs to accompany the action. Cue our knight in shining armour, Ray Moulden, who came galloping from Bishops Lane to the rescue, diagnosed the problem and enabled Neil to continue. Neil’s knowledge and infectious enthusiasm for his subject make him the sort of teacher who inspires you to go home and start putting his advice into practice straight away. He also brought a varied selection of plants from his nursery, many of which went home with delighted members.
The weather forecast for our plant sale on 19 April was gloomy, and indeed the day was unpleasantly wet, windy and cold. But gardeners are hardy folk, and enough people supported us – by bringing plants and by buying them – to give us a profit of £212.90. This will put our new club on a good footing to see us through our first year. Many thanks to everyone who came.
Our next meeting, on 28 May, will see the return of Lyn Spencer-Mills, owner of Hooper’s Holding at Hinton St George, who will let us into the secrets behind the development of her garden of delights. We will follow this up with a visit to the garden on 23 July.
