HARDINGTON AND PENDOMER WI
MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING HELD ON
12th MARCH 2008 AT 7.45 PM
Present: 36 members and 2 guests.
President, Fiona Chadwick welcomed our two speakers, Tricia Cook and Roger Allan, who came to talk to us about Being a Magistrate. An interesting and informative talk followed with Tricia and Roger explaining their roles as magistrates in South Somerset.
They explained the rigorous interviewing process they have to go through before being accepted, and how they have to be representative of their local community and to have insight and knowledge of that community. South Somerset has 62 magistrates who are equally divided between men and women. Magistrates are not paid but do get expenses.
They deal with many different types of cases including theft, vehicle crime, domestic violence and assault. Questions were taken, with members bringing up many interesting points.
The vote of thanks was given by Brenda Bickerton.
The meeting then continued with the business, chaired by Fiona Chadwick.
Apologies for Absence: Gladys Rawlins, Pauline Grassam, Sue DeBoehmler, Elizabeth Brown, Margaret Wilkins, Daphne Creed and June Chivers.
Birthday Posies: Liz Brown, Gillian Bysouth, Jayne Jones, Amy Knight, Audrey Marsh and Judy Tucker.
Minutes of last Meeting: The minutes of the last meeting were taken as read and signed by Fiona Chadwick.
Matters arising from the minutes: None.
Finance: Sally informed members that we had made a profit of £591.03 at the Village Breakfast. £400 has been sent to Marie Curie Cancer Care. From the remainder, we are going to buy some kitchen equipment, such as kitchen utensils, for use at the village hall and the balance will go into our funds.
