HARDINGTON AND PENDOMER WI
MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING HELD ON
10TH DECEMBER 2008 AT 7.45PM IN THE VILLAGE HALL

Present: 29 members and 3 guests from Pendomer.

As it was the Christmas Meeting, members were welcomed with a glass of mulled wine and nibbles and cakes were served during the meeting.

President Jenny Dodd welcomed the members and three guests from Pendomer - Julia Lumley, Ros Patten and Sarah Smith - to the meeting.

New Committee: Jenny explained about the new committee details of which, she reminded them, could be found on the back of the new programme for 2009.  She emphasised that the Treasurer and President would not be continuing in office the following year as both were due to come off the Committee next year. She asked members to bear this in mind when the time came to elect the Committee for the year 2010.

Birthday posies: Gladys Rawlins, Val Radford and a belated posy for June Chapillon whose birthday was in September. Margaret Wilkins received a special bunch of flowers as she was celebrating a milestone birthday.

Apologies for absence: Janet Cuff, June Chapillon, Carol Vallis, Muriel Amatt, Phyllis Leach and Daphne Creed.

Minutes of the last meeting: These were approved and signed and a copy was on the notice board for members to read.

Correspondence:

Event Boards:

Setting up of Interest Groups and Activity Days:  The Committee would like members to submit ideas for Interest Groups or Activity Days.  If there was enough support from the members the Committee would organise the Day or start the Group off with a view to that Group then carrying on by themselves.

Food Hygiene Course:  Fiona Chadwick has agreed to attend the course but no other member volunteered to attend.

M&S Ladies’ Night: Elaine explained to the members about the M&S Ladies’ Night to be held on Tuesday 24th March. She hoped that about 500 tickets would be sold at a cost of £5 and proceeds from the event will go to The St. Margarets Somerset Hospice, The Friends of Yeovil Hospital and The Alzheimer’s Research Trust.

The evening would include:

Treasurer’s Report: Gift Aid - Sally asked if any tax paying members would sign their names on the list provided and she would bring the Gift Aid forms for them to complete at the next meeting.

She also reminded the members that their subscriptions (£29) were now due and she had brought the Christmas Stocking into which they could put their donations for our Christmas Charity ACWW.

Any Other Business: Jenny informed the members that St Margaret’s Hospice was collecting Xmas stamps and there would be a box available for them at the January meeting.

Next Meeting: 14th January 2009. The speaker will be Val Grainger - The Woolly Shepherd. Val works with wool and natural fibres.

After the meeting members were highly entertained by our local magician and member of the Magic Circle David Beckley. He mystified and astounded the members by demonstrating his skill in mind reading or Mentalism as it is professionally known.

The vote of thanks was given by Sally Norris.

The evening’s entertainment finally closed after a game of Bingo under the expert guidance of callers Elaine Gilmore and Sally Norris.
