Resolution Votes: Completed forms were required to be handed in this evening.

Village Breakfast on Saturday 7th February: Jenny informed the members that more helpers were required for setting up on the Friday afternoon and also more waitresses were needed.

Donations of marmalade, cakes for the cake stall and raffle prizes were required. As raffle prizes would also be required for the M & S Ladies Night, Jenny reported that the Committee thought that 50p should be charged for the Breakfast Raffle with smaller prizes. The members agreed to this. They also agreed to the Committee’s proposal that the profit from the Breakfast should be divided between the Church Fabric Fund and the Village Hall.

Denman Bursary: Jenny told the members that it had been suggested at the Committee Meeting that as Angela was unable to get on a Denman College Course she should spend the money on a local course instead. The members agreed that this was a good idea and that Angela should go ahead and do this.

Setting up of Interest Groups and Activity Days - from those members signing up at the December meeting the result so far was that there was most interest in a Walking Group followed by a Theatre Group. It was agreed to try and get the Walking Group going first with Sue Phillips organising the first outing and then later a visit to the theatre or cinema could be organised. Elaine had also offered to arrange a Lunch Club to take place on the third Thursday of the month.

M & S Ladies’ Night: Elaine reported that the arrangements were going well.  The priority now was to try and sell as many tickets as possible (500 was the aim).  Models were required for the fashion show and also makeover volunteers. Significant raffle prizes were also needed.

Treasurer’s Report: Sally thanked all those members who had paid their subscriptions.  She said that as only £65 had been raised so far for the Christmas Charity ACWW she had brought along another envelope for any further contributions.

Sally asked if there were any more members who were eligible to sign up for Gift Aid.

She told the members that she had received a cheque for £50 from the Group Treasurer. This was money left over from last year which would go back into Hardington and Pendomer WI funds.

Food Hygiene Course: The next one was to be held on February 10th. Anyone interested to let Jenny know as soon as possible.

Skittles:  Congratulations to the B team who had tied with East Chinnock to win the Skittles Cup.

Any Other Business:

After her stay in hospital Gladys Rawlins is now in residential care at Beechwood, West Coker Road, Yeovil.

Information on the Resolutions for the AGM could be found in an article in WI Life.

Flower of the Month Competition:  Winner Rosemary Richards

Date of the next Meeting:  Wednesday 11th February 2009: Members’ Night.

After the conclusion of the business Elaine introduced the speaker Mr Malcolm Welshman, a retired vet and published author whose talk was entitled “My Life with Animals”. He enthralled and amused the members with his many anecdotes about the various animals with which he had come into contact during his childhood and his time as a vet both at home and abroad.

The vote of thanks was given by Vivien Cherry.

The meeting came to a close after tea and biscuits had been served by tea hostesses Fiona Chadwick and Sue Phillips.
