Matters Arising:

Letters to and from NFWI regarding M&S Ladies’ Night – Jenny read out to the members the disappointingly unsupportive reply to her letter she had received from Jana Osborne, General Secretary of NFWI. She also pointed out an item from the March edition of County News written by the Somerset Federation Chairman Thelma and the Board of Trustees. In this article it was stated that a WI had recently infringed the rule regarding the organisation of fund raising events for other non related charities. It was obvious that, although not mentioned by name, they were referring to Hardington and Pendomer WI. As a result Jenny said that she had rung Jana and at the same time sent her an email with a copy of the of the County News article. Jana had been been very helpful and supportive on the phone and suggested that Jenny ring Thelma to try to come to a satisfactory solution. When Jenny spoke to Thelma she found her very conciliatory. They both made their views known and she did accept that we were doing everything correctly – it appears it is a grey area. Jenny went on to say that she felt that National had definitely intervened even though they were not telling us. They decided that it was best to leave the past behind and make a fresh start.

Jenny told the members that she felt that it would be a suitable gesture to offer two M&S Ladies’ Night tickets to the Federation and that she would write to Jana to thank her for all her help.

Treasurer’s Report:

Sally told the meeting that out of the profit made from the Village Breakfast £200 had been donated to the Village Hall and £200 to the Church Fabric Fund. Letters of thanks had been received. The remaining £156 would go to our own WI Funds.

700 M&S Ladies Night tickets were believed to have been sold. As a result of the large number attending the doors would open at 7.00pm instead of 7.30pm. Models had been asked to be at the store at 5pm on Tuesday 15th March to choose their outfits.

Sally reminded the members that out of the £29 subscription £6.12 goes to the Somerset Federation, £10.26 to National and our own WI keeps £12.62.

Progress was going well. The Walking Group was due to meet at 1.30pm on Friday 13th March for a walk to East Chinnock and back. The Theatre Group was going to the Swan Theatre in July and the Book Club was under way. The Lunch Bunch had had two outings so far.
