HARDINGTON AND PENDOMER WI
MINUTES OF THE MONTHLY MEETING HELD ON
14th OCTOBER 2009 AT THE VILLAGE HALL
Present: 23 members and 4 guests.
President Jenny Dodd welcomed members (including 2 new members – Cecilia Dack and Judith May) and guests to the meeting.
Apologies: Vivien Cherry, Rosemary Richards, Brenda Bickerton, Mary Spilsbury, Margaret Wilkins, Joan Whiteman, Daphne Creed, Liz Brown and Sue de Boehmler.
Birthday Posies: These were presened to Phyllis Leach, Vivienne Ford and also Joan Whiteman (in absentia).
Minutes of the last meeting on 9th September: These were approved and signed and a copy had been put on the Notice Board for members to read.
Correspondence:
- October County News
- Reorganisation of the Resolution selection procedure. The short listed resolutions together with notes on each resolution and a voting form will be printed in the November issue of WI Life. Completed forms to be brought to the December Meeting
- Jewellery Making Workshop at Haselbury Plucknett on Wednesday 18th November
- Yeovil Group WI Revue
- West Coker WI shopping trip to Cardiff on 26th November.
Boards:
- Group Visit to Bristol – Monday 30th November
- SCFWI Carol Festival – Wells Cathedral – Wednesday 9th December

- Lunch Bunch
Notice Board:
As there were too many notices to read out Rachel asked members to look at The Notice Board.
Pennies for Friendship: Jenny informed the members of the Committee’s recommendation to abandon Pennies for Friendship in favour of raising funds at the Christmas Meeting and the members agreed to this.
Denman Bursary: The members were reminded that the next Denman Bursary was due to be awarded next year.
Interest Groups:
- Walking Group – to meet up at the end of the meeting to arrange the next outing.
- Reading Group – The next meeting had been arranged
- Lunch Bunch – next outing on Thursday 29th October at Barrington Court.
November Annual Meeting:
Two members have come forward to join the Committee.
Social Time will follow after the business.
Jenny reminded the members that she would not be present at the meeting and Elaine Gilmore would be in the chair.
Jenny informed the members that we will be having a new Adviser but that we will still remain in the Crewkerne Group.
December:
The Group Carol Service will take place on Thursday 17th December with the theme “Christmas around the World”. Daphne Creed will be taking the Service. The collection will be for ACWW.
Our Christmas Charity Collection will also be for ACWW.

The business concluded, President Jenny introduced the speaker for the evening, Mark Piper, Education Officer of the British Board of Film Certification.
Mark gave a very interesting and comprehensive talk about the history and function of the Board, and about the work of the examiners and how they have to follow specific guidelines. He ended by showing scenes from a few films explaining why, because of the nature of these scenes, these films were given their designated ratings.
Jenny thanked Mark on behalf of the members and guests.
The Tea Hostesses for the evening were Helen Parrott and June Chapillon.
Next Meeting: This will be held on Wednesday 11th November – AGM and Social Time will follow the business.
