REPORT FOR SEPTEMBER - A WALK THROUGH THE NATIONAL GALLERY
After our break for the rather dubiously named summer, members have been busy during September. We started off the month by supporting the highly successful Craft and Flower Show.
Members baked and organised the teas while many of our members made cakes for sale. There continues to be the much prized WI cup which this year was won by Rachel Moulden, who was quite a star as she was the overall show champion. Audrey Marsh was another cup winner while many of our other members also won prizes in a variety of classes. Congratulations must go to all our WI winners.
This was followed by our monthly meeting when our president, Fiona Chadwick, welcomed members and guests. She was particularly pleased to welcome from Australia Daphne Crutch who had been a member when she lived in the village. It was lovely to see so many members at the meeting when we enjoyed a most interesting talk by Jean Gillespie who took us for a Walk through the National Gallery. With her detailed slides and narrative, we were given a snapshot of some of the treasures in the National Gallery.
Our next meeting is on 10th October when we shall have a flower arranging demonstration by Anne Hassed from Blooming Linda’s of Somerton. Don’t forget to bring your own flower arrangement for the competition. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible and new members are, as always, very welcome.
