REPORT FOR NOVEMBER - ANNUAL MEETING
This month’s meeting was also our Annual Meeting when we welcomed WI Advisor, Judy Gould, and 32 members. The evening commenced with a talk by fellow villagers, Tanya and Stuart Ogden, who came to speak to us about the charity, Wishing for a Well, which is something they support and feel strongly about. Its main aim is to provide a source of safe drinking water for villagers in Africa. Tanya explained that she started her tap dancing group, Tanya’s Tappers, which includes some of our members, in Hardington specifically to raise funds for this worthwhile project. We all take safe water so much for granted, especially as it is there at the turn of a tap, when there are still many people in the world without this vital facility.
The monthly business meeting then took place followed by the business for the annual meeting which included the election of the new committee.
As 3 committee members were standing down and 2 new members had come forward to join the committee, no formal election was necessary. The officers for the next year will be as follows:
- President: Fiona Chadwick
- Secretary: Jenny Dodd
- Treasurer: Sally Norris
The president, secretary and treasurer all gave their annual reports which show that Hardington & Pendomer is a thriving WI with 44 full members and 2 dual members. Members had enjoyed many activities throughout the year, the highlight being a visit to Highgrove, and partaken in many village events including the carnival, Flower and Craft show and organising the annual village breakfast.
Judy Gould, our WI Advisor, congratulated us on being a lively, outward looking and modern WI, and pointed out that we are only as good as our leader and we have a very good president in Fiona Chadwick.
Our next meeting is on the 12th December and will be our Christmas meeting, which the committee is busy organising, so we hope to see as many members as possible attending. Do remember your donation for Wishing for a Well, which is our Christmas charity this year. Guests are always welcome so please come along, especially if you are a newcomer to the village - we are a friendly bunch so you will be made very welcome.
