REPORT FOR APRIL - FUN AND GAMES
28 members and 10 guests attended the April Meeting which was our Birthday Meeting.
Before the business members and guests enjoyed a delicious supper provided by the members and the Committee.
After the meal Treasurer Sally Norris, who was standing in for President Jenny Dodd and Vice President Elaine Gilmore in their absence, formally welcomed the members and guests from West and Middle Chinnock, East Chinnock, Crewkerne, Haselbury Plucknett and Misterton WIs and also Julia Beckley who was to lead the Square Dancing later in the evening.
Birthday posies were presented to Carol Vallis, Fiona Chadwick, Karen Dodge and Shirley Heal. Ann Egerton and Jenny Dodd also celebrated a birthday this month but were not able to attend the meeting.
Sally reported that a letter had been received from Marks and Spencer thanking everyone for making the Ladies' Night such a success. After handing out letters of thanks from Elaine to the models Sally went on to say that the Evening had made a profit of 5,127 and, after expenses had been deducted, St Margaret's Hospice and Yeovil Hospital League of Friends would each receive 2,500. Brenda Bickerton had kindly taken photos of the evening and anyone wanting a copy were asked to put their name on the list provided.
The members were informed that the resolution "SOS for Honey Bees" was the only one going forward to the AGM. Vivien Cherry volunteered to do the talk about this at the May Meeting but said that she would like someone else to help her.
The Interest Groups are continuing to do well. The next outing of the Lunch Bunch would take place on Thursday 23rd April at The Smokery Restaurant and Shop, Hambridge. Vivienne Ford had arranged a theatre outing on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July, the former being for WI members only. At the end of the evening the Walking Group arranged the date of their next Outing for Friday 24th April meeting up at Margaret Partridge's House at 2pm and the members of the Book Club arranged that they would meet on 21st April to discuss their first book.
The meeting continued with members and guests taking part in Square Dancing ably and bravely led by Julia Beckley. This proved to be great fun and quite energetic and in order to avoid total chaos those taking the part of the men were required to wear baseball hats.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 13th May at 7.45pm in the Village Hall. The AGM Resolution will be debated and the Speaker will be Eileen Hurd talking about the Association of Country Women Worldwide. Members are asked to bring along items for a Bring Buy Stall the proceeds of which will be donated to Eileen for ACWW. Representatives from both St Margarets Hospice and Yeovil Hospital League of Friends will be coming to the meeting for the presentation of cheques. Guests are as always welcome.
