REPORT FOR FEBRUARY

First of all a big thank you to everyone who helped with and supported the Village Breakfast. Once again it was a great success – thank you to all our customers.

Special thanks must go to Will & Rebecca who cooked the bacon and eggs; Daphne who sold the tickets; the WI husbands who helped with the setting up of the hall and clearing up at the end and of course the WI members who did the myriad of jobs that serving 129 breakfast entails. We would also like to thank the following: Haynes the Butchers and Cott Farm for supplying the bacon and eggs respectively; East Coker Mushroom Farm for the mushrooms; Stuart Saunders from West Coker for the sausages; Daphne Creed for the groceries and everyone who donated a raffle prize.

One plea, there is a pyrex casserole dish missing from the heated table top tray – if anyone has it at home, please will you return it to the village hall – it was missed by the baked beans!

President Elaine Gilmore welcomed 29 members to the February meeting and recipients of the birthday posies this month were Helen Parrott, Margaret Partridge, Kay McIver and Rosemary Richards.

As this month was Members' Night - (a night off for the Committee!) - after the formal business a group of members had organised some surprise entertainment – their own special version of “Desert Island Discs”. Sally Norris made an excellent interviewer, inviting “guest celebrities” Fiona Chadwick, Brenda Bickerton, Sue Phillips and Jenny Dodd each to choose two pieces of their favourite music to be played and to say why they had chosen these particular pieces. The final “celebrity”, Daphne Creed, chose to sing her chosen music which she did beautifully. She invited everyone to join in with her second song – “We’ll Meet Again”. The “celebrities” of course also had to choose a luxury item to have with them on the desert island – these included a teamaker, a book on italic writing, a laptop, a satellite phone and a bath with bath foam. I shall not reveal who chose what! While enjoying the show the members were given refreshments consisting of tropical cocktails (non alcoholic of course!) and nibbles beautifully prepared by Anne Lunt and Ann Edgerton. Afterwards more refreshments of tea and homemade cake were served while the members enjoyed some social time.

All the committee members (including us) would like to thank everyone involved for a most original and entertaining evening.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, March 10th at 7.45pm when Frank Dawson will talk to us on The History of Stained Glass. New members and guests are always welcome.
