REPORT FOR JUNE

President Elaine Gilmore welcomed 17 members and one guest, Linda Dewar, to the June meeting.

There were two birthday posies month – one for Angie Brooks and one for Vivien Cherry.

Carol Vallis, our Treasurer, reported that the Bring and Buy Stall at the May meeting had raised £22.00 for ACWW (Association of Country Women Worldwide).

As not enough members had signed up for the visit to Athelhampton on 8th July, this has now unfortunately had to be cancelled.

Elaine reported that the Group meeting had been very successful and she had received many favourable comments from those attending. It was announced at this meeting that Hardington A team had won the Group Skittles, with Hardington B team coming second and East Chinnock third. As for the individual points, Angie Brooks had come second with an average of 38.35 points with Audrey Marsh close behind in third position with 38.33. Well done ladies! Elaine then presented the Skittles Cup to Audrey Marsh, Captain of the Hardington A Team.

Sue Phillips gave details of the “GO Yeovil” fundraising event in aid of St Margaret’s Hospice and the newly launched Yeovil District Hospital’s Flying Colours Appeal - the money raised from latter to be used to improve the Women’s Hospital.

After the refreshments Elaine introduced the speaker for the evening, Andrea Ledger, Community Fund Raiser for St Margaret’s Hospice. Andrea gave an interesting and informative insight into the work of both the Taunton and Yeovil hospices, the various ways funds were raised for the upkeep and running of the hospices, and the work of the many volunteers. The members were also shown photographs of the buildings and the beautiful specially designed gardens. Liz Brown kindly gave the vote of thanks.

A big thank you to all who donated books to our book stall at the Street Fayre and also to those WI members who manned the stall throughout the day: with your help we raised £107.60.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday 14th July at 7.45 pm. Louise Waldron will be talking on “Jewellery Making”. Guests are always welcome.
