REPORT FOR JULY
President Elaine Gilmore welcomed 23 members and two guests, Karen Dodge’s sister Linda and Sally Norris’s sister Sue, to our July meeting. As there are no July birthdays there were no birthday posies to hand out this month.
Rachel Moulden reported that a letter had been received from the Village Hall Committee thanking us for our donation of £250 from the Village Breakfast and also she had received an invitation from Yeovil Wraxhill WI inviting our members to a Fashion Show to be given by Denners on 11th August at Holy Trinity Church Hall. She also reminded the members that volunteers were required to help with the Flower Show teas and also donations of cakes both for the teas and the Cake Stall.
Elaine, reporting on the Group Business Meeting, said that the Group meeting which we hosted in May made a profit of around £80 and also that, as the new Group officers are due to be elected in January 2011, anyone wishing to stand should let herself or Rachel know as soon as possible.
Elaine reminded the members that as there was no meeting in August the next meeting would be in September.
After Elaine had closed the business meeting Liz Brown introduced the speaker for the evening, Louise Walrond who gave a very interesting and enthusiastic talk about jewellery making with beads. Having told the members about the various kinds of beads she worked with, including glass beads and pearls, and also having described the various materials which could be used to string the beads, she showed examples of her work. Also after showing us the various tools she used in her work she demonstratedhow to make a bracelet and a pair of earrings and the latter she kindly donated as a raffle prize.
Sue Phillips gave the vote of thanks.
Tea hostesses this month were Sally Norris and Jenny Dodd who served delicious home made biscuits with the drinks.
Another reminder to everyone about our Open meeting on Wednesday 13th October. The speaker will be Roy Kibble whose talk is entitled “Secrets from the Park – Bletchley Park Enigma Machine”. Refreshments will take the form of tea and cake and tickets will cost £3.50 (not £5.00 as previously mentioned in the June Messenger).
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 8th September when the speaker will be The Turkoman, David Hawkes who will be bringing along displays of costumes etc and we are told that there will also be “audience involvement”. Tea Hostesses - Joan Whiteman and Margaret Partridge. Guests are always welcome.
